Can someone please tell my why Jelly Belly makes buttered popcorn flavored jelly beans? They are f’ing disgusting, and I would rather eat poop flavored candy any day of the week!
There are a couple other nasty flavors (like jalapeno), but none as bad a buttered popcorn.
We have become “too safe” here in the United States I think. In other countries (Russia for example), you see stuff like this. π
This is a cool stop-motion video that some people did…
The city of San Diego assigned an address to the vacant lot where I’m going to be building my house. Cool.
Sometimes it’s great fun (heh, okay…) to publish blog entries in the future. For example when this entry appears on the blog, I’ll be at Dane Cook’s show at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
Weeeeee…. great fun! π
Sony discontinued their entire Qualia line of high-end products. Okay… no biggie, but maybe they should come out with something to replace the products that are now gone. For example the Qualia 006 (KDS-70CQ006) was a 70″ rear projection TV with SXRD technology and it was freaking AWESOME. No seriously… AWESOME!
Sony now has 50″ and a 60″ SXRD rear projection TVs with the same picture quality (and true 1920×1080 1080p resolution), but I still think they should come out with a 70″ replacement.
Oh well… I guess I’ll look at maybe getting the 60″ (KDS-R60XBR1) for my new HDTV…
I really want to upgrade to a high definition TV, but get this…
I live in the middle of one of the most technologically advanced cities in the United States (like I can get a T1 on a fiber connection to my place for around $100 including local loop charges) and I have 6Mbit DSL for around $30/month. But guess what? I can’t get any sort of HDTV signal for any price (except HD over the air).
My apartment building (Regents Court in San Diego) has an exclusive deal with SBC Home Entertainment so all apartments are wired for DirecTV (without the need for a dish for each unit). That means you don’t even have the option to get cable. Okay… whatever DirecTV isn’t so bad. But the DirecTV signal used for this building is not high definition.
OMG Sweet!!! (not)
I’ll probably still get a high definition TV, pick up local stations over the air (does anyone know if HDTV over the air is digital or is it still an analog signal subject to degradation?), and maybe get an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 so I can actually watch something (a game in this case) in high def.
So dumb…
Looks like Gefen just expanded their fiber optic line of cables (all fiber optic components are built right into the cable) to also include HDMI cabling (they had them for DVI before), which means I don’t need the external HDMI extender units (7 of them from this post).
//www.gefen.com/kvm/cables/fiberextreme.jsp#hdmiextreme
Now if they would just come out with a similar solution for dual link DVI, we would be all set… π
Another good random email I got today…
What in the *hell* are you talking about dude?
Okay… this is f’ing COOL. I knew Apple was going to include the technology in a future version of their operating system, but a third-party has done it and it making it available now as a beta. For those that don’t know what Intel Virtualization is, it allows a CPU, memory, etc. to be split up into different isolated environments (running multiple operating systems natively [no emulation] at the same time on a single machine). Some more reading over here.
So guess what? Now you can run Mac OS X, Windows, Linux, FreeBSD, etc. all natively (WITHOUT EMULATION) at the same time on a single Intel Macintosh computer. Bad ASS!
//www.parallels.com/en/products/workstation/mac/
Apple made a excellent move today and announced the beta for a new Boot Camp utility. This lets you run Windows natively on the new Intel Macs without needing to come up with special hacks to trick old school OSes that need BIOS instead of EFI (and also includes all necessary Windows drivers in one place).
Another really handy thing is the utility it comes with to create/resize partitions without loosing any data from the existing ones (no format needed).
Apple is a hardware company primarily, so they still get to sell the hardware… and in the course of doing so, plenty of people will switch to OS X because it might be their first (incidental) exposure to it (if they bought the machine to run Windows).
If you plan on walking up to a copy and flipping him off, be prepared for a beat down. π
Rumor has it that pricing has been finalized on Sony’s forthcoming Playstation 3 at $499. $100 more than an Xbox 360, but you should get a LOT more features (like the ability to play high definition DVDs).
According to several sources, publisher-owned developers taking receipt of updated development kits have been briefed that the pricepoint is final.
I found out today that you can push your plans through the city’s review process faster by paying them to “work overtime”. So that’s what I’m doing. It should be 2-3 weeks now instead of 6-8 weeks.
Well, now that the IVA-W200 is available for people to actually get, I thought I would see about getting everything together for my new car stereo. Unfortunately Alpine’s bluetooth module (KCA-100BT) isn’t shipping yet, nor is the docking station (PMD-DOK1) for their Blackbird portable GPS (PMD-B100).
Oh well… what’s another month in what seems like the eternal wait for the perfect car stereo? π
Now that I know what car stereo I’m going to put in my truck, I started to look around for the IVA-W200 online to see if it’s available anywhere (no point in going to a local store to have it installed if it’s not available yet). Even though none of the online retailers have it yet, the official release date is listed as “March 2006” so I decided to call a local shop to see if they know when it’s going to be available. Apparently it’s available now, but so far all the units in the shipments have been purchased before the shipments arrive. The guy pretty much said I had to pay for it and then that will put me in line for one.
I guess that’s good news to know Alpine is actually shipping the product already. π
I found my new favorite “secret powder spot” at Bear Mountain today (it’s off the Silver Mountain lift). The only bad part about it is you need to take 2 different lifts to get to it if you ride through it.
Julien wrecked himself snowboarding today in what was quite possibly the funniest snowboarding crash in the history of the world… DAMN I wish I had a video of it!!!
Cool. π

The Wrigley Gum Company has paired up with the U.S. military to create an anti-bacterial chewing gum that actually cleans teeth so soldiers wouldn’t have to stop what they’re doing to brush their pearly whites.
If the military signs on to it, there’s a good chance it will end up in your medicine cabinet one day.
Me and some friends decided to go to Las Vegas next weekend to go see Dane Cook on Saturday. Whew hew! π
Too bad Julien, Scott and all the other sorry suckers that have to work can’t go! π
Julien sent me a couple pictures from Saint Patrick’s Day, so I tossed them up in the photo gallery if anyone is really bored.
This guy looks a lot like the guy that thrashed me at golf recently – gee, I look pretty serious too
“There is no such thing as fun for the whole family.” Bahahaha! Caught groping Julien, augh!
I might actually look better in Anne’s jacket than Anne does π (maybe)
This guy cracks me up… it’s like a train wreck. You don’t want to watch, but you can’t help it. π
You can check out a ton of his dances, and even make requests.
This was taken from the Book of Google (chapter 1, verse 1-5)…
Now the web was formless and empty. Spam was on the surface of the results, and the spirit of Google was hovering over the face of the index.
And Google said, “Let there be Shawn”. And there was Shawn.
Google saw Shawn, and saw that Shawn was good. Google divided Shawn from the spam.
And Google called Shawn awesome, and the spam he called lame.
You know the rest… π Anyway, it looks like my blog is no longer banned in Google’s index (believe it or not, I actually have some useful posts/information once in awhile). I can only assume that Matt Cutts may have had something to do with it since he read (and commented) on this post last week (since it’s been banned for 15+ months and I’ve tried 3 or 4 re-inclusion requests without any success).
This is what my traffic (just from Google) looks like this month:
This is just weird… and even weirder that he got off because of it.
Matt Brownlee was arrested last October after police spotted a pickup truck speeding along a busy street in downtown Ottawa.
Matt Brownlee believed singer Shania Twain was helping him drive. (AP file photo)
The 33-year-old man told psychiatrists that he knew the legal repercussions of his actions, but believed singer Shania Twain was helping him drive.
Brownlee pleaded not guilty to four charges, including impaired operation of a motor vehicle and driving while disqualified.
On Monday, the judge drew on several psychiatric assessments in ruling that Brownlee was not criminally responsible for his actions because he suffers from delusions that celebrities such as Twain are communicating with him telepathically.
Ten years ago, Brownlee was given a seven-year prison sentence and barred from driving for the rest of his life after he killed an Ottawa woman, Linda Lebreton-Holmes, and her 12-year-old son while driving with a blood alcohol level three times the legal limit.
Earlier in March, a psychiatrist told the court that Brownlee suffers from psychosis and mood disorders resulting from a brain injury caused by the 1996 car crash.
Brownlee has been undergoing a series of assessments at the Brockville Psychiatric Hospital since last fall.
Another assessment of how much risk he poses to the community could see Brownlee being detained in hospital, released under supervision in the community, or given an absolute discharge.
I forgot to mention that the city now has my plans for my house, so breaking ground on it is now in their hands as far as when they issue building permits.
I don’t really have anything that I can say that would make this any more (or less depending on who you are) funny… But DAMN it’s funny. π
I’m a bank now too it seems…
Please answer.
Just send me your money (cash only please), and I’ll see what I can do.
Can someone please try this and tell me if it really works?
I don’t even know what in the hell a “C-Walk” is, but it’s pretty funny. π
After that, take a quick little breather. But keep looking cool.
You should have the proper state of mind, such as pretending you have ants in your pants.
During your c-walk, take the time to check out the ladies if you’re impressing them at all.
If you ever wanted to wear poop on your head, but didn’t care for the smell, now you can!

The guy wearing the hat looks “so” happy about it. hah
Dude, I got the beating of a lifetime at golf today by Scott. He beat me by… uhm… 29 strokes. π
Oh well, at least I beat him at foosball (once).
Julien called me this afternoon…
So me, Anne and Julien tried it (we failed). In reality it’s 6 1/2 pounds of food… 1 lbs of beef, 1/2 pound for the rest of the burger (bun, lettuce, tomato, etc.), 2 lbs of beer, but the kicker is there is no way it was 1 lbs of fries… it was 3 lbs of fries.
Oh well… I finished the burger, beer and 1/3 of the fries… but it was too many fries for me (plus I wasn’t all that hungry to start with).
Alternative PHP Cache is a PHP caching mechanism (like Turck mmCache, eAccelerator, etc.) that is being developed directly by PHP developers. In fact, PHP 6.0 is going to include APC Cache in it’s core framework, so it’s certainly something PHP developers/admins should start looking at.
Anyway, if you install APC Cache and Apache fails to start afterwards, check your Apache error log to see if you get something like this:
[Thu Mar 23 15:18:28 2006] [apc-error] apc_shm_create: shmget(0, 67108864,914) failed: Invalid argument. It is possible that the chosen SHM segment size is higher than the operation system allows. Linux has usually a default limit of 32MB per segment.
PHP Warning: Unknown(): Unable to load dynamic library './/usr/local/lib/php/apc.so' - (null) in Unknown on line 0
Most BSD variants (including Mac OS X Server in my case) don’t allow much shared memory to be allocated by default. Lucky, it’s an easy fix…
My OS had a default allowance of 4MB max for shared memory. You can alter that by adding this to your /etc/sysctl.conf file (or creating it if it doesn’t exist):
My new /etc/sysctl.conf file…
shmall should be shmmax/4096
So the above config will let you use up to 128MB for shared memory.
You can’t dynamically set the shared memory kernel variables with the sysctl command because once it’s set, it can’t be altered. Because of that, you must reboot your server after you edit the sysctl.conf file…
San Diego lost their starting quarterback this off-season to free agency (he went to the New Orleans Saints).
He hurt his throwing arm at the end of last season, and his ability to play at all this season was in question a little bit. I just hope Philip Rivers doesn’t turn out to be another Ryan Leaf. π
I haven’t seen the “official” review response, but I think it went well today. Pretty much the HOA just wants a fence moved (maybe some other minor things), but all the “big” stuff I was worried about seemed to be fine.
So for the most part that means the house is pretty much good to go as far as the home owners association goes (this was the last of 3 necessary design reviews).
