San Diego Chargers – Strength In Numbers

You know I have to repost great things I see about the Chargers, so… 🙂

THE FAVORITE

1. San Diego, 2-0
The funny thing about the Chargers: Every team has at least one serious flaw, but everyone wrote off the Bolts because of the “downgrade” at QB to Philip Rivers. You would have thought they were replacing Brees with Bruce Gradkowski’s illegitimate brother, Cliff. Rivers was the No. 4 pick in the 2004 draft, remember? The next seven picks were Sean Taylor, Kellen Winslow Jr., Roy Williams, D’Angelo Hall, Reggie Williams, Dunta Robinson, Ben Roethlisberger and Jonathan Vilma. He’s no stiff. I’d say it’s more probable that Rivers becomes a good QB right away over Indy suddenly figuring out how to stop the run, or the Bengals not getting killed by off-the-field stuff, or the Eagles making it to Miami without anyone who can run for a first down when they need one.

Of course, all of this is mitigated by two words: “Marty” and “Schottenheimer.” But you know what? We don’t have to worry about that for another four months. I think they’re the best team right now, and I think they throttle the Ravens in Baltimore on Sunday. And that’s why you rank the teams.

Oakland Raiders Find White Substance On Field

Old news now, but maybe someone didn’t catch it…

Associated Press (9/15/2006, 8:30 AM PST)

OAKLAND, (CA)–Oakland Raiders football practice was delayed nearly two hours today after a player reported finding an unknown white powdery substance on the practice field. Head coach Art Shell immediately suspended practice and called the police and federal investigators. After a complete analysis, FBI forensic experts determined that the white substance unknown to players was the GOAL LINE. Practice resumed after special agents decided the team was unlikely to encounter the substance again.

Chargers vs. Titans

Did anyone else catch the San Diego Chargers stomping the Tennessee Titans by 33 points? 🙂

I caught the game in Vegas with Chris, Jim and Sanaz right before I flew home. The Titans had zero passing yards in the first half and like 10 or so rushing yards. hah Funny. 🙂

All the teams in the Chargers division lost again this week (except for Kansas City, which played someone else in the division, so *someone* had to win.. heh)

So after 2 weeks of the 2006 season, let’s see where the Chargers are at (compared to all teams in the NFL)…

  • #4 total offense
  • #2 rushing game
  • #2 total points scored per game
  • #2 total defense
  • #1 pass defense
  • #5 rushing defense
  • #2 points allowed per game
  • #4 quarterback
  • #5 AND #8 running back

Uhm, you can’t compete with that… 🙂

Chargers vs. Raiders

Uhm, did anyone happen to notice the San Diego Chargers completely dominating the Oakland Raiders last night on Monday Night Football by chance? 🙂

Check out some of these stats:

  • Oakland Total Yards: 129
  • Oakland Passing Yards: 42
  • Times Oakland Sacked: 9 (3 just by Shawne Merriman)

Not a bad way to give your new quarterback some confidence. 🙂 In fact, Philip Rivers didn’t have to do much, but he ended up 8-11 with a touchdown and that gives him a 133.9 quarterback passing rating, which leads the NFL. Of course, it’s only 1 week, but the Chargers have the #1 defense in the NFL as of right now. 🙂

Update

I just noticed that every other team in the Charger’s division (Oakland, Denver and Kansas City) lost their opening games this season. That can only be good for the Chargers…

San Diego Fishing

Did anyone besides me know that it doesn’t get light outside until about 7:15 am?

We went on a half day fishing boat today, and I had to get up at 5:00 am (yuck!!). Our boat went down to Mexican waters almost to Rosarito. Because of that, we had some Mexican beer at 8:30 am (Corona). We almost convinced Shoemoney to hug/spoon a sea lion for $200. haha That would have been a great picture, unfortunately it would also mean that we would be making the arrangements for his funeral… and that’s no fun.

Oh, and I caught 6 fish because I’m pretty much a bad ass fisherman.

Steves Shot And Killed

One Steve (Foley) was shot by a off-duty police officer, while another Steve (Irwin) was killed by a stingray today (well yesterday now).

The San Diego Chargers’ Steve Foley was shot Sunday by an off-duty policeman who had followed him to his home after noticing Foley’s car driving erratically, a sheriff’s investigator in San Diego, California, said.

The 30-year-old, nine-year NFL veteran was shot twice; his wounds are not believed to be life-threatening, said San Diego Sheriff’s Department Lt. Dennis Brugos.

Steve Irwin, the Australian TV presenter known as the “Crocodile Hunter,” has died after being stung in a marine accident off Australia’s north coast.

Australian media reports say Irwin was diving in waters off Port Douglas, north of Cairns, when the incident happened on Monday morning.

Irwin, 44 was killed by a stingray barb that went through his chest, according to Cairns police sources. Irwin was filming an underwater documentary at the time.

Ambulance officers confirmed they attended a reef fatality Monday morning off Port Douglas, according to Australian media.

Queensland Police Services also confirmed Irwin’s death and said his family had been notified. Irwin was director of the Australian Zoo in Queensland.

He is survived by his American-born wife Terri and their two children, Bindi Sue, born 1998, and Robert (Bob), born December 2003.

Crazy that the Crocodile Hunter was finally killed (and not by a crocodile)… That dude would jump into a murky swamp in the middle of the night to wrestle a 16′ crocodile, and a little stingray does him in. Weird.

Update

Steve Foley is done for the season “officially” now.

San Diego Padres Win

I’m not a big fan of baseball, but I *love* the Padres dugout seats when I can get my hands on them, so I went to the game today.

This is the 3rd time I’ve had those tickets this year, and the Padres have won every time. Maybe they should just give me those tickets to every game, so they win every home game for the season. 🙂

Plus, somehow free everything (steak, beer, wine, cake, etc.) just makes baseball more enjoyable. heh

Padres Win In The 10th

So I managed to get the kick-ass dugout seats again for a Padres game tonight, and the Padres won in the 10th inning again (they seem to do that every time I have dugout seats). 🙂 It was a cool game, and the best part (like always with the dugout seats) is everything is free (food, beer, sushi, etc.). 🙂

Golf

I’m still an amazing golfer, but since Julien doesn’t have as many people reading his blog as I do, I figured I better give him a plug on his golf game today. He shot 38 (vs. my 48) on the front 9. It got too dark to play the the last 3 or 4 holes, and that’s when I was planning on mounting my comeback. So whatever…

I’m An Amazing Golfer

Today I beat my best golf score ever by about 20 strokes. I even had 2 birdies (I’ve only had 1 ever in my life before today).

So the plan is to improve by 20 strokes every game I play from here on out. Until I just start getting more eagles than not.

3 Point Deduction For Racisim

FIFA’s new rule about racist soccer fans will go into affect next month for the 2006 World Cup. Basically if fans are judged to be racist against an opposing team, the fan’s team will lose 3 points.

Should be interesting to see how they control that. Soccer fans are crazy enough that they would probably just be racist against their own team to make the opposing team loose 3 points. 🙂

Padres Dugout Seats

Okay… I retract my previous post about $290 Padres tickets being too high of a price. Everything is free… the best parking, all food, beer, or whatever else you want. There are servers that come to your seat and bring you whatever you want, as often as you want. We had 5 or 6 beers, steak, nachos, hot dogs, carrot cake, cookies, ice cream, pretzel and probably some other stuff that I can’t remember (you could even get sushi brought to you). There was also a secret underground lounge, bar and restaurant (all free too) that you could go to whenever you feel like it.

We were right behind home plate (we were on TV for every pitch), and even better is the game was AWESOME. Padres losing 5-0 in the bottom of the ninth, rally with 5 runs to tie it, then win in the 10th. If you really want a summary, check ESPN.

They were fantastic seats, and actually worth the $290 price.

I found some info on them over here.

$290 Baseball Tickets?

I’m not a *huge* baseball fan, but I’ll go once or twice a year, and I’m going Sunday for the Padres/Dodger game (this will be my first game this year).

Steve at Bank of America called and asked if I wanted some tickets for the game, so I figured… what the hell. Free baseball tickets… I’ll go. I picked up the tickets today while in the branch, and I just about crapped myself because the tickets are $290 EACH (“Dugout Seats” whatever that means). Does that mean I get to sit IN the dugout? Where do you even get “dugout seat” tickets? I just went to the Padres website and the most expensive tickets I could find are “Premier Club” at $59 each. For the price of these two Padres tickets, you could get the nicest season ticket for the Chargers.

Bobby and I are going on Sunday, so we’ll see if these 2 seats are really worth $580 or not. Maybe we get massages or something. {shrug}

Snowboarding At Bear Mountain

I found my new favorite “secret powder spot” at Bear Mountain today (it’s off the Silver Mountain lift). The only bad part about it is you need to take 2 different lifts to get to it if you ride through it.

Julien wrecked himself snowboarding today in what was quite possibly the funniest snowboarding crash in the history of the world… DAMN I wish I had a video of it!!!

Drew Brees Gone

San Diego lost their starting quarterback this off-season to free agency (he went to the New Orleans Saints).

He hurt his throwing arm at the end of last season, and his ability to play at all this season was in question a little bit. I just hope Philip Rivers doesn’t turn out to be another Ryan Leaf. 🙂

Nobody Likes Anne

I would just like to throw out a big *F-U*!!!! to Anne. She went golfing with Julien, Scott and myself this morning. Naturally Scott won (he has played a lot longer than anyone else). But it was Anne’s first time ever playing golf and she kicked the crap out of me and Julien.

“Oh… gee, another drive onto the green.” Whatever… no one likes playing with you Anne. Go eat corned beef instead.

I did get my first birdie ever today, so I’m still cool.

No Mexican Jail For Me

Julien, Anne and myself made it back from the Baja 250 without spending a single day in Mexican jail.

You can get pretty close to the race action (as you can see here)…

On the way there… What the hell is this? 50 miles worth of snow at 4:00 am? Lame!!!!

We made it… this is what was going on.

On the way back… This was rather interesting… this was a Mexican jumping the US border to get INTO Mexico. 🙂

I Can Drive A Golf Ball?

Uhm… something strange happened tonight. Julien and I went to the driving range to hit some golf balls… and much to both of our amazement, we were both able to hit the ball relatively well with our drivers (this pretty much was a first for both of us). What in the hell happened? Must be something in the water.

That’s the good news… the bad news is I lost $34 to him in our “pitching challenge”… probably because he cheats somehow.

Anyone Miss Me?

I’m back from visiting Trent and Jamie in Michigan. We had a couple awesome snowboarding days with pretty much perfect conditions. Even drug Jamie into the back-country where she was blazing new trails. 🙂

Collin is a cute little bastard (he is 11 months old now).

I know *some* people missed me… because I couldn’t make 2 different sushi invites, and I also couldn’t save Bobby’s softball team as a fill-in since they were a couple players short (surely I would have given them their first win). 🙂

I Am The Foosball Champion!!!

All I know is that I’m awesome… and this is why…

Julien and I went to go practice some golf at the driving range this afternoon (by the way, I still utterly suck at hitting golf ball with a driver of any sort). We also played on the “short game” area (pitch and putt) which we both ended up being pretty good at… Well at least better than I was yesterday.

I ended up having dinner over at his place, and helping them break in their new glorious BBQ pit with marshmallows and beer.

Now to the good part… Julien’s roommate Scott is basically this unbeatable Foosball android where if you can touch the ball once the entire game you are doing well (I would guess he hasn’t been beat at Foosball since the 1980s). So of course I got suckered (again) into playing Foosball against Scott, only this time we each could only use our left hand. Anyway… long story short is I beat him DOWN 11 to 9.

Take that Scott!!!!!!

How do you like me now?!?!?!?!???

Oh my god, I’m awesome…

Buick Invitational

I went VIP style to the Buick Invitational golf tournament today (thanks to Bank of America). It was pretty fun to lounge on the 18th green/fairway with all the food/drinks you want. 🙂

I’m sure you must find that terribly exciting (whoever is reading this), eh? 🙂

Me and Tiger Woods are becoming old friends these days. 🙂

Stock Market Set For A Good Year Thanks To The Steelers

Time to invest in the stock market! 🙂

//money.cnn.com/2006/01/23/news/funny/super_bowl_indicator/

The National Football League playoffs produced a Super Bowl matchup that suggests a winning year for stocks is now a lock.

When the Pittsburgh Steelers upset the Denver Broncos Sunday, it meant that neither team in the Feb. 5 game will have American Football League roots. The Steelers, which moved to the American Football Conference when the NFL and AFL merged in 1970, will face the Seattle Seahawks in this year’s championship game.

And according to the Super Bowl Stock Indicator, a victory by an old NFL team means a bullish year for stocks, while a victory by an old AFL team gives the bears the upper hands.
