World of Warcraft Via P2P

It looks like Blizzard is one of the growing number of companies that have realized that peer-to-peer file sharing technology has some great uses. I just noticed they distribute World of Warcraft (full DVD and updates) via P2P technology. Cheaper because it uses the end user’s upstream bandwidth.

Neat!

  1. I do not think it is neat in _this_ case. They save _their_ money, but provide _me_ with worse service. Sometimes I am forced to use some free mirror set by some kind soul to get my update and not miss a daily fix of WoW…

You see: some guy who has not get a penny from me is able to provide better speed and bandwidth than Blizzard which charges my card monthly. Neat? Don’t think so.

  2. I got hit last month for $120 for about 10+ gigs of uploads.

Since then I have watched my connection – NOTHING untoward happened until today when I got the patch 3.2 which was 400mb.

This day I uploaded 4.5gb of data. Or in other words one half of my months total bandwidth. Thanks Blizzard you fkn rock! (not)
