Why do all home automation systems suck? It would be relatively easy to make a universal system that was modular (with just code) that could control anything… So I don’t get why all the “big players” are so proprietary.
Maybe I need to start a home automation company, because the guts (software) which is the expensive part is really the easiest part. Weird.
These Czech animatronic statues realistically urinate on the trough before them, moving their hips and organs in concert. Their “pee” spells out quotes from famous Prague residents.
While they are peeing, the two figures move realistically. An electric mechanism driven by a couple of microprocessors swivels the upper part of the body, while the penis goes up and down. The stream of water writes quotes from famous Prague residents.
Visitor can interupt them by sending SMS message from mobile phone to a number, displayed next to the sculptures. The living statue then ‘writes’ the text of the message, before carrying on as before.
Uhm… this “puppy” (a 6 month old Saint Bernard) ate a 13 inch serrated knife and is fine. Just take him down to the local vet and have it removed. No problem!
What I want to see is the video of a dog actually swallowing a knife. Crazy dog should be in the circus or something. 🙂
For those of you looking for some sort of testicular surgery, you should definitely get on this surgeon’s waiting list when he is available again in six months…
A Romanian surgeon has been suspended after allegedly cutting a patient’s penis into several pieces.
He was supposed to be operating on the man to lower a testicle into his scrotum when he accidentally cut the urinary channel.
It’s reported the surgeon then lost his temper and cut the man’s penis into several pieces.
The surgeon, based at a Bucharest hospital, has been suspended for six months and faces further investigations.
Everyone will be happy to know that Tyra Banks never had breast implants. I guess she did a show where she had someone do a sonogram on her to prove she had real boobs (I didn’t see the show myself, but read about it in the news). That seems like a pretty dumb thing to do if you ask me. Just a publicity stunt to get her name out there more if you ask me. Plus look, even *I’m* writing about her. Oh well… 🙂
Last night there was the craziest thunder and lightning storm I’ve ever seen. I swear it seemed like it was right outside my window. The thunder was like an earthquake and every time it hit you could hear car alarms going off everywhere in the neighborhood.
Scripps pier is the closest pier to me (about 3 miles away), and this was a picture taken from there last night during the storm.
I’ve been doing a little tuning with one of my MySQL database servers today, and it’s pretty amazing how fast it is. Just ran a benchmarking thing on it before I applied some optimizations (so this is with no tuning), and this is what it looks like:
Uptime: 747 Threads: 1 Questions: 1409737 Slow queries: 0 Opens: 41055 Flush tables: 1 Open tables: 197 Queries per second avg: 1887.198
Notice the queries per second. And even more impressive is this is for a single threaded benchmark app.
Spam in my “normal” mailbox has gotten crazy lately. I get *maybe* one actual letter per day, and then 10-15 spam mails (free magazines, catalogs and all sorts of other crap). So today I decided to actually call these places and get removed from their mailing lists.
Guess what? You can’t be removed. Their suggestion is to put it in the trash (well that’s what I’ve been doing for years). But you *can* update your address with them, so I figured out what to do. Just change the mailing address to one of the other spammers. So now Holiday Express catalogs go to the BtoB magazine office, and vice versa. Man, I wish I thought of that earlier. I’m gonna see if I can actually eliminate my postal mail spam.
For ones just addressed to “Resident” (like the “Have you seen us?” mailings), does anyone know if I can refuse delivery on those and return to sender? 🙂
Dude, sometimes when you get free stuff it’s more annoying than anything else. The Wall Street Journal started sending me a free 6 month subscription out of the blue.
That’s cool and all, except I don’t have a fireplace where I live, so I don’t need newspaper to start a fire. Nor do I have a pet bird that needs their birdcage lined with papers. So really I have absolutely no use for it.
No biggie… just throw them away, right? Wrong. They are so big the post office can’t put them in my mailbox. Which means now I get to pick up my mail AT the post office. That’s awesome dude! I get something “free” I don’t want and now I have to drive to the post office to get my mail because of it. Rad.
If nothing else, Apple really does come up with cool ideas. They came up with the iPod, and seem to come with with something completely new as far as iPods go just about the time the competitors are getting around to copying their previous idea.
Anyway, today Apple did away with the iPod Mini model, and replaced it with the iPod Nano. This thing is so cool and tiny I keep thinking it’s an April Fool’s joke or something. 🙂 Compared to the Mini, it got a smaller (but higher resolution) color screen, support for photos, dropped the internal hard drive and went with 100% flash memory, the whole thing is barely bigger than the iPod Shuffle (which is cool too).
What the hell??!? (blah, blah of a wannabe alien)
