Apple’s “TiVo Killer”

Look, I’m psychic (again)… “Hopefully that’s Front Row 2.0…” Funny 🙂

“Apple’s Mac mini will be reborn as the digital hub centerpiece it was originally conceived to be, Think Secret sources have disclosed. The new Mac mini project, code-named Kaleidoscope, will feature an Intel processor and include both Front Row 2.0 and TiVo-like DVR functionality.”

  1. Is that thing going to suppord a DVD changer? MS’s MCE just got a 200 DVD changer controller in their last service pack. I am sure whatever system you go with, it will be better than a Tivo. I feel bad for my Tivo, since I moved to MCE, it has hardly seen any use. Something about having 250+ movies on tap whevener I want them, two tuner television and dual OTA HDTV support + radio tivo/dvr…fogetaboutit

  2. DVD Changer? That’s so old school… 😉 I want DVDs in electronic format.

Either way, I’m certainly not going to be using TiVo. We’ll see how Apple’s looks, if it sucks I’ll get a Windows Media Center PC.

Wait… your setup has HDTV support? I thought that wasn’t coming until later this year.

  3. Yeah, but it is OTA (Over the Air) HDTV support…and you can have two HD tuner cards as well as two cable tv tuner cards. The sucky thing is that there is no support for HD supplied from the cable company. So, you won’t be getting access to all of the HD channels, which I am sure you have or have plans for.

As for the DVD stuff, I have between 250-300 DivX encoded movies on my box right now and it really is pretty nice. I have a ton of movies on DVD, so rather than spend the time compressing them, I would rather just hook up a changer and call it a day. 🙂
